It was at the corner of Myford Road and Walnut Ave. August 3, 1965 near Santa Ana in southern California.

Rex Heflin, an engineer with the highway department was surveying signage visibility. He tried to call in a blocked sign, but the radio was out — strange. That’s when he saw a silvery craft flying slowly from left to right across Myford Road. He snapped a series of photos with his Model 101 Polaroid work camera, images that became iconic.
